Symptoms
Brownish-red stains on glasses, fixtures, dishes and laundry. Your water might even turn a red-brown color once it is heated. When water is left standing, you may see red particles settling on the bottom of the glass.
Causes
Often you cannot see this off color until after the water has been left standing. This is caused by dissolved iron. Others may see the water look discolored right out of the cold water faucet, this is caused by precipitated iron.

Symptoms
You may have green-blue stains on sinks and other porcelain bathroom fixtures. Often there is a blue-green cast to the water.
Explanation
Water with a blue-green tint or that leaves blue-green stains is usually the result of low pH (below 6.8). The acidic water leaches from brass and copper plumbing and fixtures causing staining. Over time, pinhole leaks throughout the home’s plumbing may result.
